Times Square. Genuinely one of my least favorite places I've ever stood in, overpriced everything, packed shoulder to shoulder, and once you've seen the lights for ninety seconds there's just nothing else actually there to do

I think a lot of these places survive purely on momentum, everyone's seen it in movies so everyone expects to feel something standing there, and then the actual experience is crowds and price gouging rather than whatever magic the photos promised

Not looking for a debate about objectively beautiful places, more curious what people genuinely regretted the trip to once they were actually standing there

The Mona Lisa in the Louvre, you get about four seconds of actual viewing time behind a rope with three hundred people's phones blocking half your view, underwhelming experience for how much hype surrounds it

Disagree on Times Square honestly, I think it's meant to be experienced once for exactly the reason you're describing, nobody goes back a second time and that's fine, it's not supposed to be a deep cultural experience

Machu Picchu felt oddly similar to what you're describing even though it's supposedly one of the great wonders, the actual site is smaller than photos make it look and it's absolutely swarming with tour groups

I'll defend the Eiffel Tower actually, yes it's crowded but standing directly underneath it still took my breath away in a way photos never captured

The Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen might be the single most disappointing thing I've ever traveled specifically to see, it's tiny, it's usually surrounded by tourists taking selfies, and that's the entire experience
