Open-ended recommendation thread. The brief is simple: tell me about one thing you would enthusiastically recommend to a stranger who is vaguely similar to you but knows nothing about it. Not something famous that everyone knows. Not the safe choice. The thing you actually push on people.

Format is up to you. A sentence, a paragraph, a brief essay if you feel strongly enough. The only requirement is genuine enthusiasm. I am extremely tired of lukewarm endorsements and faint praise.

Sutton Hoo in Suffolk. Go in late afternoon when the light is low. Walk out to the mounds and think about what is under them. There is nothing dramatic to see and yet it is one of the most affecting places I have ever stood.

The novel Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin. Short, devastating, and one of those books that finishes you and you have to sit quietly for a while before you can do anything else. Do not look it up, just start it.

Wandering Matt

Any airport in a country you have never visited at 6am. Before the cafes open and the crowds arrive. The specific quality of that light and that waiting is unlike anything else. Not a destination, an experience.
