[lego] July 1 LEGO releases are a weirdly good month for retro gaming fans specifically

[Dom9]

Six new LEGO sets launched on July 1, and the standout is 11374 Arcade Pinball Machine, which folds the beloved Classic Space theme into a fully playable pinball cabinet, continuing LEGO's ongoing push into retro gaming builds

There is also just one new Star Wars set this release, and it has already drawn some criticism from fans over its price relative to size and minifigure selection, which is a recurring complaint in the Star Wars line lately

Technic dominates the month with three separate releases, including the return of the biennial Ultimate Technic supercar series at 1:8 scale, which comes with a day one gift with purchase for early buyers

The other two Technic releases are more mixed, with one being a model of a Formula 1 team's car that reviewers are calling somewhat underwhelming given how strong some of LEGO's previous F1 tie ins have been

There is also a new take on Sony's Venom films getting its first true LEGO set, which is a fairly unusual licence choice and suggests LEGO is willing to experiment with less obvious movie tie ins alongside the usual Star Wars and Marvel mainstays

The Arcade Pinball Machine sounds like a brilliant idea, turning a playable cabinet into a buildable set is exactly the kind of creative crossover LEGO should be doing more of

[ReacherBadger]

Star Wars fans complaining about price versus minifigure count again is basically a monthly tradition at this point, that line has had value complaints for years now

[QuantumToken24]

Excited about the Ultimate Technic supercar returning, that biennial series always produces some of the most impressive engineering in the whole LEGO lineup

[Kieron83]

A Venom LEGO set is such an unexpected licence choice, curious whether it actually sells well enough to justify more experimental movie tie ins going forward

[John]

The underwhelming F1 team car is a shame, LEGO has nailed some fantastic Formula 1 sets before so this one sounds like a step down

[Steady Dylan]

Retro gaming builds are quietly becoming one of my favourite parts of the modern LEGO catalogue, the arcade machine idea specifically is genuinely clever design work

[QuantumLeap96]

Only one Star Wars set this month feels light compared to a normal release cycle, wonder if they are saving bigger reveals for later in the year

[GoldbergFan]

Day one gift with purchase incentives for the Technic supercar always create such an annoying rush, half the appeal is just getting the bonus piece before it runs out

[Henry10]

I appreciate LEGO experimenting with licences outside the usual suspects even when individual sets do not land perfectly, keeps the catalogue from feeling stale
