A power supply is one of the easiest components to underspend on, it doesn't show up in benchmarks, it doesn't boost frame rates, so it's tempting to grab whatever's cheapest and put the savings toward a better GPU instead. The actual hidden cost shows up later, cheap PSUs often have less stable voltage output, meaning every other component in the build is quietly receiving dirtier, less consistent power than it was designed to run on

Over time that instability can shorten the lifespan of genuinely expensive parts sitting downstream, your GPU and motherboard included, and in a worst case scenario a failing budget PSU can actually damage other components when it eventually goes. The money saved upfront on the power supply can end up costing far more later in a component replacement that never should have failed that early

This isn't an argument for buying the most expensive PSU available, it's an argument for not treating this specific component as the place to cut corners simply because it's invisible day to day. Curious whether people have ever actually had a cheap PSU take out another component when it failed
