Prebuilt or self built PC, does building your own actually still save meaningful money

Building your own PC has long been treated as the more cost effective option compared to buying a prebuilt system, since manufacturers of prebuilt machines charge a genuine markup for assembly and support that a confident builder can theoretically avoid entirely by simply sourcing and assembling the individual components themselves. In recent years, however, some prebuilt manufacturers have leaned heavily into bulk component purchasing power and occasional promotional pricing that can occasionally undercut the actual cost of the equivalent parts bought individually at retail price.

Beyond the pure cost question, building your own also comes with genuine non financial advantages, full control over exactly which components go into the machine, the satisfaction of having actually built it yourself, and the ability to more easily upgrade individual parts down the line rather than being stuck with a manufacturer's specific configuration.
