What productivity app do people actually stick with?

Something I have been mulling over for a few days.

For context I have been on forums for a long time and this comes up differently here than elsewhere.

I am especially interested in what people would avoid as well as what they recommend.

The answer probably depends more on your workflow than the app itself. People spend weeks looking for the perfect productivity system and then abandon it because the setup becomes a hobby instead of helping them get things done.

For me, a simple task list has always lasted longer than complicated systems. If adding a task takes more effort than doing the task, the app has already lost.

Todoist is the one that has survived the longest for me. Not because it has every feature under the sun, but because it stays out of the way.

The biggest win was using recurring tasks properly. Things like annual renewals, monthly checks and boring admin jobs just appear when needed instead of living in my memory forever.

Funny how every productivity discussion eventually becomes people recommending a completely different philosophy. One person has a notebook, another has a colour-coded Notion workspace with 400 pages.

The important part is that the system gets used. A beautiful setup that you avoid is just a digital museum exhibit.
