There should be one emergency exception to all rules.

If somebody posts a photo of a suspicious cloud and asks if it looks like a duck, all normal standards are suspended.

I agree that offensive is subjective.

But usually people know the difference between accidental awkwardness and showing up with a flamethrower and declaring war on the gardening section.

Intent matters. Pattern matters. Context matters.

My favorite forum rule is always the unspoken one.

Don't become known as "that person".

Every community has one and nobody remembers how it started.

Lite moderation sounds good.

But I hope that doesn't become one exhausted moderator at 2am trying to decide whether six pages of passive aggressive smileys counts as conflict.

Protect the mods too.
