When you read the news can shape how it affects you. Some people check headlines the moment they wake up, others save it for lunch and some prefer to catch up in the evening once the day has settled. I have tried all three, and each one changes my mood in a different way

Mornings keep you informed for the day ahead, and many like knowing what is going on before work. The downside is starting the day with bad news, which can set a gloomy tone. Lunchtime is a natural break, though it can eat into time that should be spent switching off

Evening reading lets the day's stories settle, so you get fuller coverage rather than breaking news that later changes. But reading heavy news before bed is not great for sleep. Some people avoid it altogether and just let important stories find them

When do you prefer to catch up on news? And has your habit changed since smartphones put headlines in your pocket all day?
