Q: Are independent forums still worth building when most people already use Reddit, Discord and social media?

A: I think they are, especially for niche communities that need searchable discussions and a slower pace. Big platforms are useful, but they are not great at preserving knowledge or giving a community its own identity.

The better question is probably what forums need to do differently now. Cleaner mobile layouts, better onboarding and good moderation matter more than trying to copy social media

Discord is good for chat but awful for long term knowledge

That is pretty much it. Totally get that.

The best information is usually the stuff that would not make it into a formal guide.

Appreciate it. :D

Forums need better mobile posting more than anything
