Microsoft has announced the Xbox Nano Controller, a pocket sized controller aimed at younger players, people with smaller hands and gaming on the go. Pure Xbox reports that it costs £44.99 or $49.99 and is available to pre-order now from the Microsoft Store, with release on 4 November

Xbox calls it its smallest controller yet. It is just over 5 inches long and weighs 3.5 ounces, making it lighter and shorter than most modern smartphones. Despite the size, it keeps all 18 standard gameplay inputs in a familiar layout, so it should work with any game

It connects over Bluetooth and has a built in rechargeable battery instead of the AA batteries Xbox controllers have traditionally used. Pure Xbox notes that a USB-C charging cable does not appear to be included in the box, which is worth knowing before ordering

New Game Pass members in the US get two months of Game Pass Ultimate with it. Kotaku also points out that it is cheaper than Microsoft's standard controller, which makes it an appealing option for families

This is a thoughtful product. Standard controllers are too big for many children, and plenty of adults with smaller hands find them uncomfortable too. A compact controller that works with phones, tablets and cloud gaming fits neatly into Xbox's play anywhere approach

Would you buy a Nano Controller for yourself or your kids? And should more controllers come in different sizes?
