Xbox reportedly tried to strike a huge deal with Netflix for its most famous characters. Video Games Chronicle, citing Puck, reports that Xbox asked for $800 million over seven years for the rights to adapt its biggest franchises

Netflix reportedly countered with an offer of about $500 million. The talks are said to have included plans for animated series based on Minecraft and Diablo, among other properties

Xbox already has experience with screen adaptations. The Halo live action series ran on Paramount Plus for two seasons before being cancelled in July 2024, and the Fallout series on Prime Video has been a big hit

Game adaptations have become hot property after successes like The Last of Us and Arcane. Platforms are willing to pay a lot for well known worlds with built in audiences, and Microsoft owns many of them after the Activision Blizzard deal

The numbers are big, but given the success of other adaptations, the ask is not outrageous. A Minecraft animated series alone could be massive. It will be interesting to see whether the two sides meet in the middle

Which Xbox franchise would make the best series? And is $800 million too much to ask?
