World of Warcraft on consoles has been a fan wish for two decades, and Blizzard is keeping the hope alive. Pure Xbox reports that World of Warcraft: Forever launches on PC on 5 November with native controller support, meaning it can be played on handhelds like the ROG Xbox Ally

The game is PC only at launch and is not coming to Xbox Series X and S yet. However, World of Warcraft vice president Holly Longdale told GamesRadar the goal is to let players play it wherever they want, and eventually on whatever they want

Longdale described Forever as the first step, with the priority being to get gamepads working well with World of Warcraft. She also referred to Xbox's Project Helix, saying platforms will become a bit more ubiquitous

Project Helix is the rumoured next generation Xbox, reportedly due in 2028, with a next generation handheld reported for 2027. No Xbox release date for World of Warcraft has been announced. A small reader poll on the site found half of voters hoping for a surprise this year to mark the game's anniversary

Good controller support is the biggest technical hurdle for bringing an MMO with dozens of abilities to console. Final Fantasy XIV proved it can work brilliantly. If Xbox's next console blurs the line with PC, World of Warcraft could arrive almost naturally

Would you play World of Warcraft with a controller? And do you think it will ever launch on Xbox?

Final Fantasy XIV shows an MMO can work well with a controller. Its cross hotbar system is brilliant. Blizzard should study it closely
