Just picked up Wingspan after years of meaning to try it. Got through the tutorial and played two solo games but I am still struggling to build any kind of engine before the end of round 3. Any tips for new players on what to focus on early? Is the bird-type focus strategy actually good or should I be more flexible?

Early game your only job is to get eggs and birds on the board as fast as possible. Do not get distracted chasing perfect synergies from turn one

The forest row is underrated by beginners. Getting extra cards to hand early means more options later even if the immediate payoff looks small

Birds that give you extra actions when played are the ones to prioritise. Any bird that activates other birds when it lays an egg is especially powerful

Tucking cards under birds for end-of-round goals is often worth more points than you think. Keep an eye on the round objectives before you commit to a play

Do not hoard food. People hold onto resources waiting for the perfect bird and end the game with 6 worms they never spent

The predator bird archetype is fun but needs support to be consistent. As a beginner just build anything that feels like it flows and learn what synergises naturally
Here more than I should be

Solo mode is a good teacher but it rewards a different style than multiplayer. In multiplayer watching what your opponents are chasing matters a lot
It's only banter... mostly
