Rockstar's official GTA 6 support page states that in Japan specifically, the PlayStation download code included in physical box copies will expire 170 days after the issuance date, which Rockstar defines as the game's actual launch day of November 19, 2026. That puts the hard cutoff at May 8, 2027, meaning anyone who buys an unopened physical copy after that date could end up with a completely dead code inside the box

The reason traces back to Japan's Payment Services Act, which regulates prepaid instruments like gift cards and game codes. Under that law, any prepaid instrument set to expire within six months skips a whole set of registration, reporting and security deposit requirements that apply to longer lasting codes. Companies selling in Japan tend to deliberately cap validity just under that six month line to avoid the extra regulatory burden, and 170 days comfortably fits under that threshold with some room to spare

This restriction only applies to the Japanese version and does not affect Xbox digital codes, since those are not region locked the same way PS5 codes are, and no other region currently has anything like this listed on Rockstar's support page.
