Half-Life fans have something new to obsess over. Kotaku reports that Valve composer Mike Morasky seemed to mention HLX, the rumoured codename for a new Half-Life game, during a talk at GameSoundCon

Morasky was speaking on a panel with David Feise and Carlye Nyte when the word slipped out. Clips of the moment spread quickly online, and fans immediately took it as a sign that the project is real and moving forward

HLX has been talked about for a long time, thanks to dataminers and leakers. Tyler McVicker, who has followed Valve's projects for years, has been one of the loudest voices tracking the rumours

Valve has said nothing official about the mention, which is very much in character. The company rarely confirms anything until a game is ready, as with Half-Life: Alyx, which was revealed only a few months before it launched

An offhand mention is not an announcement, and fans have been disappointed many times before. Still, a Valve composer naming the project in public is about as close as we have come in years. Expectations are going to be sky high whatever happens

Do you think HLX is coming soon? And could any game live up to the hype of Half-Life 3?
