Ubisoft has proposed closing RedLynx, the Finnish studio behind the Trials motorbike stunt games. Kotaku's John Walker reports that VGC put the number of affected staff at 52. Ubisoft calls it a proposal because Finnish law requires consultation with staff before any final decision

Ubisoft bought RedLynx in 2011, after early Trials games had built a loyal following. The company says the studio has no current project and that simply reducing its size would not make it sustainable. Kotaku questions that, pointing out that Ubisoft said a year ago that the studio was working on two unannounced projects

RedLynx had already lost more than half its staff in 2025 and was moved over to mobile games. The last Trials game came out seven years ago. For fans of the series, the closure would likely mean the end of a franchise that has run for around 25 years

Ubisoft Singapore is also cutting 70 jobs. That studio made Skull and Bones, which Kotaku describes as a costly game after 11 years in development. But it also led Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, which sold more than 3.5 million copies in two weeks, so it has had big successes too

These changes are part of Ubisoft's plan to reorganise its studios into what it calls creative houses. It is a difficult time for the people affected, and hopefully they find new roles quickly. Finland has a strong games industry, so experienced developers should be in demand

Do you have fond memories of the Trials games? And could another studio pick up the series in future?
