Steam had a rough Monday for some players. PC Gamer reports that reports of Steam problems began around 6am Eastern time and were still climbing several hours later

Affected users found themselves stuck on a loading user data screen, unable to log in. SteamDB's status page showed every service as working, so Steam itself was up, but logins were failing for a portion of players

Users on Reddit's Steam support community reported the same problem. Some said closing Steam and running it as an administrator fixed it, while others said it made no difference

The writer could log in normally until he bought and installed a game, after which Steam hung for nearly five minutes before loading. He thinks purchases or downloads may be involved, but that is unconfirmed, and Valve had not responded when the article was published

Steam outages are rare enough that they always make news. Being up but refusing logins is particularly frustrating, because status pages say everything is fine. Hopefully Valve explains what went wrong once it is sorted

Were you affected by the Steam login problems? And does it worry you how much of your game library depends on one service?
