Star Wars: Galactic Racer launches tomorrow, Tuesday 6 October, on PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. Martin Cid Magazine has a launch eve preview that fills in a lot of detail. Developer Fuse Games was founded by former Criterion developers, the team behind Burnout, which explains why so many reviewers have praised the sense of speed. The game is published by Secret Mode

The campaign is a roguelite with a harsh rule. "If you crash too many times in one event or burn through your entry tokens, the whole campaign run ends." There are four vehicle classes: landspeeders that reward clean lines, nimble speeder bikes, low flying skim speeders and high risk podracers. Every vehicle can use a safe afterburner or a risky ramjet that can blow the engine. The setting is the New Republic era after Return of the Jedi, with races on Tatooine, Crait and Jakku

Multiplayer supports up to 12 players, and its unlocks are cosmetic only, which will please anyone tired of pay to win mechanics. The preview cites strong early reviews, including Game Informer's 8.5 out of 10, GamingBolt's 9 out of 10 and a Metacritic score of 88 on PS5. We discussed Kotaku's positive review last week, which praised the racing and criticised the on foot sections. Prices are 59.99 dollars for the Standard edition, 79.99 for the Deluxe and 159.99 for the Collector's Edition

For anyone planning to play straight away, G2A News reports that pre-loading is now live, with the game unlocking at 10am UK time tomorrow. Download sizes are about 37GB on Xbox, 38.7GB on PC and 36GB on PS5, with the day one patch already included. Physical copies reportedly contain the complete game, playable offline, which is increasingly rare these days

Are you picking up Galactic Racer tomorrow? And does a run ending crash rule sound exciting or frustrating?
