Star Wars Battlefront 3 reportedly in development at Respawn and DICE

EA may be bringing back Star Wars Battlefront. GameSpot's Chris Compendio reports that EA's restructuring memo, titled Building EA's Next Chapter, says Respawn and DICE are working together on an unannounced project. The memo describes it as part of a shooter portfolio that unlocks growth

Variety, citing several sources, reports that the project is Star Wars Battlefront 3. EA has not confirmed that. IGN had earlier reported that Lucasfilm Games was looking for a Battlefront partner and had considered both DICE and Bungie

The pedigree is strong. DICE made the 2015 and 2017 Battlefront games, which sold more than 33 million copies combined. Respawn made Titanfall, Apex Legends and the Star Wars Jedi games, so it knows both shooters and Star Wars well

EA says lessons from Battlefield 6 will shape its plans, and that Apex Legends will get new modes. It is clear that shooters are a big part of the company's future, even as it closes BioWare and cuts jobs elsewhere

Battlefront 2 had a rough launch because of its loot boxes, but it became much loved after years of updates. A new game built on that foundation could be a huge hit. Fans will hope EA has learned from the mistakes of 2017
