Shrek 2 is coming back. Pure Xbox reports that a remaster of the classic 2004 movie tie in game has been confirmed for Xbox Series X and S. The news first slipped out through a store page that appeared early, before the official announcement followed

Aspyr is developing the remaster. The studio has plenty of experience with older games, having worked on the Star Wars collections and the Tomb Raider remasters. That gives some confidence it will treat the source material with care

The feature list sounds good. The remaster will support 4K visuals, and there is a new Photo Mode. A Cheat Mode is included as well, which is a nice nod to the original era. Best of all, co-op play for up to four players is back, which was a big part of why the original was so much fun

Movie tie in games from that era are usually forgotten, but Shrek 2 is one of the rare exceptions. It was a surprisingly good four player co-op game with plenty of humour. Many people who played it as children still have fond memories of it

Nostalgia is clearly driving this, and that is no bad thing when the source game holds up. If the price is reasonable, it could be a great family game for the holidays. Hopefully local co-op works as smoothly as it did on the PS2 and GameCube

Did you play Shrek 2 back in the day? And which movie tie in game would you most like to see remastered next?
