Retro Gaming Collections: What Are You Hunting For and What Did You Find?

[Odd Maverick]

Retro gaming collecting has become genuinely expensive and genuinely rewarding in equal measure. Games that sat in charity shops a decade ago command serious prices now. First-party Nintendo titles especially. Certain SNES and N64 cartridges that were niche at release are now collectable. Meanwhile some consoles remain accessible. Dreamcast games are still reasonable. Mega Drive libraries are large enough that great games remain findable. The community around retro collecting mixes genuine love of the games with investment speculation which creates interesting tensions.

What are you collecting? What's your best find? What are you still hunting? And what's the one game you want that keeps eluding you?

Dreamcast is the sweet spot for collecting right now. Great library. Reasonable prices. The console itself is cheap. Underappreciated and genuinely excellent

[Velvet Sentinel]

N64 cartridge prices have become absurd. Goldeneye copies that were everywhere are now costly. The market inflated faster than anyone expected

Retro collecting on a budget means PAL versions of games that had big North American print runs. The NTSC premium is real but PAL versions of the same game often play identically

The fake cartridge problem is real now that prices have risen. Testing before buying is essential. There are good guides for spotting reproductions

[Python35]

Game Boy Advance has a great library and the cartridges are still reasonable. Compact. Robust. Plays in good light without backlight mods

[Louise84]

The Game Gear library is underrated. Sega's handheld had genuinely good games that nobody talks about because the battery life was catastrophic

Looking for a complete boxed copy of Terranigma on SNES. If anyone has one let me know. I will not discuss what I'm prepared to pay
