Nintendo has no plans to stop selling physical games, according to Bill van Zyll, vice president and general manager of Nintendo Latin America. Nintendo Life reports that he made the comments in an interview with the YouTube channel Coelho no Japão, which Nintendo Everything picked up. It is reassuring news for collectors and anyone who likes owning a box on the shelf

The question has been in the air since Sony confirmed it will stop producing PlayStation discs in early 2028. Microsoft is expected to follow, which left people wondering whether Nintendo would go all digital too. Van Zyll said Nintendo has always been agnostic on format and follows what consumers prefer

He pointed out that the Switch 2 launched with both digital and physical options and is only just over a year old. Nintendo Life's Ollie Reynolds argues it would make no sense for Nintendo to signal an all digital future at this stage. He adds that things could change if sales trends shift, which is a fair caveat

Reynolds also contrasts the Switch 2 with the PS5, which is nearly six years old with a PS6 transition expected soon. Sony is planning for its next generation, while Nintendo is still early in its current one. That difference in timing explains a lot about the two companies' positions

Many readers in the comments debated whether Game-Key Cards count as real physical media, since those cartridges only hold a download key. That is a fair debate, but Nintendo still releases plenty of full cartridges. For now, Switch 2 owners who love physical games can relax

Do you still prefer physical games? And do Game-Key Cards count as physical in your book?

Always open to a good discussion
