Nintendo is raising hardware repair prices in Japan from 16 November. Nintendo Life's Liam Doolan reports that the change was announced on Nintendo's Japanese support site and spotted by Nintendo Everything. It covers both the Switch 2 and the original Switch

The increases apply to repairs of the CPU board, LCD screen and other internal components. A Switch 2 CPU board repair rises from 27,500 yen to 37,400 yen, while an original Switch board repair goes from 16,500 yen to 26,400 yen. Both go up by 9,900 yen

Repairs for controllers and accessories appear to be unchanged, which is some good news for Joy-Con owners. Nintendo last raised repair prices in Japan in March 2025, just before the Switch 2 launched

Both consoles also saw global price rises earlier in 2026, which Nintendo put down to changes in market conditions and its global business outlook. Rising component costs, including the memory shortage we have discussed several times, are affecting the whole industry. Nintendo has not announced repair price changes outside Japan

Repair costs matter, because keeping consoles working is better for players and for the environment than replacing them. Higher prices could push more people towards third party repair shops. Hopefully Nintendo keeps repair prices outside Japan where they are

Have you ever needed a console repaired? And do you expect repair prices to rise in other countries too?
