Nintendo cancels the Kirby Air Riders Halloween event after screen freezes

Kirby Air Riders' Halloween celebration has been called off. Nintendo Life reports that Nintendo cancelled the game's Trick or Treat event on Switch 2 after players reported the screen freezing during matches

The event was due to run from 28 October to 4 November 2026, rewarding players with spooky Ghost headwear. Many players reported freezes early in matches, including one shared in a video on Bluesky

Nintendo Japan's support account said it had confirmed that the screen temporarily freezes during gameplay and that, for this reason, it would cancel the event. Nintendo apologised and said the event will be held again in the future, although no date has been given

No cause for the freezes has been shared, and there is no information on how many players were affected. Kirby Air Riders was developed by HAL Laboratory and Bandai Namco and launched on 20 November 2025

Cancelling an event outright is unusual for Nintendo, which suggests the freezes were a serious problem. Pulling it rather than leaving a buggy event running is the responsible choice. Players will hope the Ghost headwear returns soon

Did you run into the freezes? And should Nintendo compensate players for the cancelled event?
