Mass Effect fans have taken their campaign to one of the busiest places in the world. Windows Central reports that a #SaveMassEffect billboard went live in New York's Times Square on 26 October

The billboard sits at 1560 Broadway in Duffy Square and plays for 15 seconds at 35 minutes past every hour, throughout the day. Meanwhile, the Change.org petition has passed 216,000 signatures, up from just over 170,000 the day before

The campaign is run by the @WeAreMassEffect team and creator Kala Elizabeth, with the rallying cry Hold the line. Kala said her first design was rejected over copyright, so she had to redesign it quickly and learned to animate in about ten minutes. One small slip has drawn attention, with the Quarian phrase Keelah Se'lai misspelled on the ad

The group's Discord is now discussing crowdfunding to extend the billboard and add more locations. The campaign began after news that the next Mass Effect had been cancelled, with a leaked pre-production trailer for Mass Effect Universe showing a galactic cold war setting

Fan campaigns rarely change a publisher's mind, but a billboard in Times Square is a striking show of passion. The speed the petition is growing at is impressive too. Whether EA is listening is another matter

Have you signed the petition? And do campaigns like this ever change anything?
