Marvel's Wolverine has made a big impact on the US charts. VGC's Andy Robinson reports that Circana data shows Insomniac's PS5 exclusive was the best selling game in the US in September 2026

It had the highest launch month dollar sales for a Sony published game since Helldivers 2 in February 2024. Ampere estimates Wolverine has sold about 2.16 million copies worldwide, which is a strong start

PS5 hardware had a great month too. Dollar sales rose 43 percent year on year and unit sales rose 22 percent, making it Sony's best month since May 2025. Switch 2 dollar sales fell 12 percent and Xbox Series dropped 2 percent, with Xbox console units falling 27 percent to an all time September low

NBA 2K27, EA Sports FC 27 and Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave followed Wolverine in the chart, and eight of the top ten games were new releases. Total hardware units fell 3 percent overall

Wolverine's success shows the power of a big exclusive to sell consoles. It also highlights how much Xbox hardware is struggling, which fits with all the reports about its future. With GTA 6 arriving in November, PS5 sales could climb even higher

Have you played Wolverine? And can anything slow PlayStation's momentum this year?
