One of Xbox's longest serving studio leaders is stepping down. Pure Xbox reports that Turn 10 founder Dan Greenawalt is retiring from Microsoft after 27 years, as Turn 10 merges into Playground Games and becomes Playground Games Redmond

The news was first reported by The Verge, citing an internal memo from Playground studio head Trevor Williams. Williams wrote that Greenawalt had decided this was the right time to retire, and that it is hard to overstate his impact over the past 27 years

Greenawalt worked on Project Gotham Racing on the original Xbox in 2001, led the creation of the Forza series and was involved in eight racing games in total. The merged team is now helping with Forza Horizon and Fable

Pure Xbox suggests that the 2023 Forza Motorsport reboot seems likely to be the last game in that particular series, although that is the outlet's own speculation rather than an official statement

Forza Motorsport defined console racing simulators for two decades, so this feels like the end of an era. Folding Turn 10 into Playground makes sense given how successful Forza Horizon has become. Racing fans will hope the simulation side of the series is not quietly abandoned

Is this the end of Forza Motorsport? And what was your favourite game from Greenawalt's era?
