Square Enix's new turn based RPG has had a strong start on PC. GamesRadar reports that Final Fantasy Resonance peaked at 27,933 concurrent players on Steam, making it the second biggest Steam launch for a Square Enix turn based RPG

That beats Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, which peaked at 27,390 players. The record still belongs to Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, which reached 45,357 players at its peak

Turn based RPGs have been enjoying a revival, helped by big successes in recent years. Square Enix has been pushing more of its games on PC at launch, which has helped them reach wider audiences

Steam figures only tell part of the story, since they leave out console sales and players on other PC stores. Still, a strong peak is a good early sign for a new release

It is good to see a new Final Fantasy turn based game doing well. For a while it seemed Square Enix was moving away from the style. These numbers show there is still a big audience for it

Have you tried Final Fantasy Resonance? And are turn based RPGs back in fashion?

Steam numbers alone do not show everything. Many people will play on PlayStation

The total audience is probably much larger. Still, it is a promising start

Console players often outnumber PC players for these games. The full picture will be clearer later
