Early impressions of the Modern Warfare 4 campaign are in, and they are more positive than many expected. Kotaku has rounded up the first reactions ahead of the game's launch on 23 October. Call of Duty campaigns have been mixed in recent years, so the good reception is welcome news for fans of single player

The campaign reportedly runs for about six hours over 16 missions. That is fairly standard for the series, which has always focused on short, cinematic stories. Reviewers seem to agree that the pacing and set pieces work well

GameSpot called it the best Call of Duty campaign since 2019's Modern Warfare reboot, which is high praise given how well that one was received. PC Gamer's Morgan Park was also positive. GamesRadar was a little more reserved, describing it as junk food, enjoyable while it lasts without much to chew on afterwards

Modern Warfare 3 in 2023 had a campaign that many players felt was rushed, with its open combat missions drawing particular criticism. A strong campaign this year would help restore some faith in the series' single player side. Many players still buy Call of Duty mainly for multiplayer, of course

Six hours of polished entertainment is no bad thing if the price feels right. The campaign is often a good way to get used to the controls before jumping into multiplayer. It also gets more people trying the game through Game Pass

Do you still play Call of Duty campaigns? And is six hours enough for a single player campaign?
