Yuji Horii, the creator of Dragon Quest, has released a small game called Interrogation Room Komiya, which he says was made entirely with AI. Nintendo Life reports that VGC spotted it first after Horii posted a link on X. In the game, players choose text prompts to pressure a person under interrogation into confessing to a crime. Horii says the whole thing took about 30 minutes to produce

He described the technology as astonishing and compared the experience with making The Portopia Serial Murder Case in the early 1980s. Back then he wrote the story, drew the art and programmed the game himself on a PC. Now, he says, he can give instructions to AI and make a decent game on his own without drawing or programming skills

Nintendo Life notes that some nuance may have been lost in translation, which is fair. It also points out that Horii has praised AI before. In late 2025 Automaton reported that he was interested in using a chatbot in a quiz or mystery game and expected future games to use AI

The article balances this with concerns from former Dragon Age narrative lead David Gaider, who has warned about losing the entry level jobs where many developers learn their craft. It also mentions Capcom's plan to turn its RE Engine into an AI era game engine. Clearly the conversation is moving fast in Japan as well as the West

There is something charming about a legendary designer playing with a new tool and getting excited about it. A small detective game made in half an hour is not going to replace Dragon Quest. But it shows how quickly simple ideas can now be prototyped

Would you play a game Horii made with AI? And do quick prototypes like this help or hurt young developers?
