Brazilian developer RafaelNGP has released PSBox Cloud Gaming on GitHub, a homebrew app that runs Xbox Cloud Gaming natively on jailbroken PS5 consoles. Tom's Hardware reports that he built it partly with Anthropic's Claude. Up to four DualSense controllers can be mapped to Xbox controls, so local multiplayer is possible

Installation is fairly straightforward for anyone already running homebrew. Users download a zip file from GitHub, extract it to a specific folder and wait for a homebrew loader to mount it as a game. They then sign in by entering a code shown on the TV into their phone, much like signing into a streaming service

The stream currently runs at 1080p and 60 frames per second. The PS5's GPU can then upscale it to 4K using AMD FSR 1 or Anime4K, which is a clever use of hardware that would otherwise sit idle while streaming. Testers have reported some macroblocking, pink artefacts and DualSense vibration problems, while others say it works well

The developer has been responsive too. When a Reddit user asked about local Xbox Remote Play, he said it did not work yet, then added support in an update a few days later. Tom's Hardware places the app among a wave of PS5 jailbreak projects, including an original Xbox emulator. The article does not say which firmware versions are supported

It is an impressive hobby project and a good example of AI tools helping individual developers build ambitious things. Anyone tempted should remember that jailbreaking a console carries risks, including losing online access to PlayStation services. For most people, the official route to Xbox games remains an Xbox, a PC or a supported device

Would you use something like this if your console was already jailbroken? And how much are AI coding tools changing the homebrew scene?
