Dark Souls players have lost their online features again. GamesRadar reports that FromSoftware has taken the game servers for Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 offline on all platforms

FromSoftware's statement said that, due to a server issue, the game servers would be temporarily unavailable on all platforms, and that it would share updates once it had information about when they would be restored. About eight hours later, there was still no update and no return time, and no cause had been given

GamesRadar notes that the outage came about a week after the PHP vulnerabilities forced many online services offline, but says any link is unknown. Separate maintenance on Dark Souls 2 had finished only a couple of days earlier

Fans will remember 2022, when the PC servers for Dark Souls Remastered, 2 and 3 were down for most of the year over security concerns, leaving co-op and invasions broken for a long time. This time every platform is affected, not just PC. It also follows the delay of The Duskbloods into 2027

Online play is a big part of what makes Dark Souls special, from messages to summons and invasions. FromSoftware's statement says the outage is temporary, but the lack of detail is worrying given what happened in 2022. Hopefully this is resolved far more quickly

How much does online play matter to your Dark Souls experience? And do you think this will be a long outage?
