Capcom has confirmed a large data breach. VGC's Chris Scullion reports that an outside party accessed 11,774,247 Capcom ID accounts. These are the free accounts used for online features in games such as Street Fighter 6

For most accounts, the exposed data was email addresses and system details, including account creation dates, last login times, login counts and the IP address of the last login. For 43 accounts, the data also included date of birth, gender, region and nickname

Passwords were not accessed, although the attacker did change the passwords of 196 accounts, which Capcom has now reset. No credit card information was affected. Capcom is warning users to watch out for phishing emails pretending to come from the company

This is Capcom's second major breach, after a ransomware attack in 2020. The company says its investigation is continuing

Email addresses linked to gaming accounts are valuable for phishing, so users should be careful with any messages claiming to be from Capcom. Turning on two factor authentication where possible is a good idea. It is good that passwords and payment details were not exposed

Do you have a Capcom ID account? And are game companies doing enough to protect player data?
