Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still a long way from release, according to a new report. Insider Gaming's Andrew Highton reports on findings by Gauthier Andres for French outlet Origami, which claim the game is still in pre-production, 18 years after it was first revealed in 2008

Insider Gaming says it was able to verify much of the report. At least 250 people are reportedly working on the game at Ubisoft Montpellier alone, and the team is aiming to reach the alpha stage of development

The report describes repeated changes in direction. Leadership has changed the vision and pushed back deadlines several times. Between 2019 and 2022, it was planned as a heavily multiplayer game spanning multiple planets. Now it is reportedly a solo first adventure with no required login and optional co-op

Insiders reportedly describe the fact that the game cannot be cancelled as a kind of poison. VGC adds that it is now being compared with Insomniac's Spider-Man games, and that Ubisoft's restructuring could change its future
