One of the most fondly remembered British children's programmes is coming back as a game. Video Games Chronicle reports that a free, officially licensed point and click adventure based on Knightmare is in development

Knightmare ran on ITV from 1987 to 1994, famously sending blindfolded young adventurers through a virtual dungeon guided by their friends. The new game is being led by writer and designer Ewen Watson, with permission from the show's creator Tim Child

Several original cast members are returning to voice their characters. They include Hugo Myatt as Treguard, Mark Knight as Lord Fear, Clifford Barry as Brother Strange, Edmund Dehn as Gumboil, Iona Kennedy as Greystagg, Paul Valentine as Motley and Alec Westwood as Folly

The game is PC only and will be a short adventure of one to two hours, due next year to mark the show's 40th anniversary. Watson says all the art is hand drawn and everything players see and hear is made by real people, with no AI. The show's life force mechanic has been dropped to encourage players to take their time and explore

Getting the original cast back is a wonderful achievement, especially Hugo Myatt as Treguard. Knightmare was years ahead of its time with its virtual sets. A free tribute made with this much care is a lovely gift to fans

Did you watch Knightmare growing up? And who was your favourite character?

Never pay full price. Never.
