One of gaming's most dedicated modding projects has reached a major milestone. PC Gamer reports that OpenCAGE, the mod tools for Creative Assembly's horror game Alien: Isolation, has reached version 1.0

Creator Matt Filer started official work on the tools nine years ago, after around two and a half years of earlier prototypes. They have always been free, which is a big reason the game has so many mods

Version 1.0 lets creators build full custom maps, missions, modes, characters, weapons, animations, sounds, models and textures. Filer says the tools can now support full total conversion mods, which has long been his goal. To show what is possible, he is building a Halo themed map with custom cinematics, enemies, weapons and HUD

The tools are available on Steam. The article also notes that Alien: Isolation 2 is likely to release in 2027, which could bring new attention to the original

Nine years of volunteer work on a single game's mod tools is extraordinary dedication. Alien: Isolation is one of the best horror games ever made, and giving the community full creative control keeps it alive. Total conversions could give players years of new content

What kind of Alien: Isolation mods would you like to see? And should more studios release official mod tools?
