One of gaming's longest running indie projects is finally finished. GameSpot's Darryn Bonthuys reports that Faraway, first announced by solo developer Steph Thirion in 2010, will launch on 5 November. Annapurna Interactive is publishing it

The game is coming to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X and S and Switch, and Gematsu also lists Switch 2. No price has been given yet. Sixteen years from announcement to release is an extraordinary journey for any game

Faraway is a one button arcade game set in space. You play a shooting star, linking constellations and using their gravity to slingshot across the cosmos. Each run starts from nothing, and the universe is generated in real time based on how well you play, with better performance opening up faster and harder regions

There are also 16 handcrafted puzzle stages alongside the procedural mode. It sounds like a calm and beautiful game, which fits Annapurna's reputation for thoughtful, artistic titles

Solo developers working on one game for years often face doubts and setbacks, so reaching release is a real achievement. Annapurna's 2026 slate also includes Road Trip and Silent Hill: Townfall, so it is a busy year for the publisher. Faraway could be a lovely surprise in a crowded November

Do you remember Faraway from its original announcement? And what is the longest you have waited for a game?
