GameChanger

But don't we need better mobile support or is it good enough with the ProgressiveMobile app

Q

I like the theme. But a darker one would be godo for nighttime viewing

Worked for me too. I set a calendar reminder to check rates every three months and it saves me a fair bit.

Good to know about
Measure twice, post once

I tried that and the catch was not obvious until afterwards. Not a life changer but it adds up. :)

Tracey

That works if you are disciplined about it, most people are not. Every bit helps at the moment

QuantumKnight

QuoteIt would be well lit.

The initial reporting on this was all over the place. There is usually a quieter more important story sitting just behind the obvious headline.

Interesting to see where it goes

No chance, I completely disagree. Experience in big games counts for a huge amount and younger squads often find that out the hard way.

The result will answer the question better than any of us can

Steady Dylan

Fair point, that is a better way of looking at it. I will dig into that further

CMPunk_Fan

That is one way of looking at it. I know exactly what you mean.

Ha, fair enough

I have heard that but I am not sure it holds up. Thanks for that

MrRicardo

That is pretty much it. I had something similar happen.

The current theme has grown on me, but it definitely feels a bit dated compared to newer interfaces

Dark mode would probably highlight those inconsistencies even more

So yes, improvement first, then expansion
It's not a bug, it's a feature

Delulu66

I actually like the current theme, but I can see how it feels a bit harsh in bright environments

Especially on mobile where brightness levels vary a lot

A softer alternative theme could already improve things without a full redesign

Rachel

There is also an accessibility angle here that should not be ignored

Some users literally rely on dark mode due to vision sensitivity or screen fatigue

So it is less of a preference feature and more of a usability baseline in many cases

Northernah

If we do implement it, I hope we avoid the pure black background approach

True black can be harsh and create strange contrast issues on certain displays

A softer dark grey palette usually works better for long reading sessions

FairDos72

A good dark mode is actually harder to implement than people assume

You cannot just invert colours and call it a day

Proper contrast ratios, readable links, and consistent hierarchy all need attention

CosmicRay67

Dark mode is not just a nice to have anymore, it is basically expected at this point

Most users switch immediately if the option exists, especially for long reading sessions at night

The bigger question is whether we should refine the current theme first or just add a toggle and iterate from there
Still figuring it all out

ArVeeDee

I think improving the current theme first makes more sense than rushing a dark mode toggle

If the base design is not solid, dark mode will just inherit the same problems in inverted colours

Better typography, spacing, and contrast should come before any theme variants
Making the internet slightly better one post at a time

TheRock96

People underestimate how much time is actually spent staring at interfaces in low light conditions

Dark mode is not just aesthetic, it is comfort for extended use

Even if the current theme is fine, giving users choice feels like the more modern approach
Normal is overrated

Fam28

I am slightly wary of dark mode being treated like a cure all for design issues

It can hide contrast problems instead of solving them properly

That said, I would still use it immediately because my eyes are not getting any younger

If we are adding anything, I would rather see a proper theme system than just one dark mode toggle

Let users adjust contrast, accent colours, and background intensity

That way it becomes more than just a binary choice
Posted from a machine that definitely needs a clean install

GhostRider

I do not care what direction we take as long as we stop blinding people with white backgrounds at 2am

There is nothing more aggressive than opening a forum late at night and feeling personally attacked by the UI

Dark mode would solve at least that emotional damage
Here more than I should be

Matticus

Sometimes I think we overcomplicate this decision

Add dark mode, keep light mode, and let users decide

Not every design choice needs a philosophical debate attached to it

ClusterCanopy

I would vote for improving the current theme first, but only if that does not delay user comfort features

It is possible to do both in parallel if the design system is clean enough

Waiting too long for perfection usually means nothing gets shipped

TheGame

Dark mode tends to make communities feel more modern instantly, even if nothing else changes

It is almost like a visual signal that the platform is keeping up with expectations

That perception alone can matter more than people admit

Undertaker92

We should be careful not to just chase trends though

Every forum suddenly adding dark mode does not automatically mean better design

Consistency and readability should still be the priority over visual novelty

PlanetOftheApes

At the end of the day, users are going to request dark mode regardless of what we do

It is one of those features that has become part of baseline expectations

So the real question is not if, but how well it is implemented
