Please don't make dark mode mandatory. Some of us read forums at work, in libraries, or on shared screens where a dark interface sticks out like a suspicious hacker movie. Light mode also tends to look more familiar for people who spend hours reading documents and articles

That said, I'm not asking for a giant blinding white rectangle either. Give us a decent light theme, a decent dark theme, and a setting that doesn't reset every time we log in. This is a forum, not a loyalty test for whichever colour scheme is fashionable this month
