Measure twice, post once

Like he said it's already in the works, if Codeberg it will work great

QuoteIt's already planned he said

That is pretty much what I took from it too. That is my read on it anyway

Sorted it the same way. Should be fine if you take your time

Still think the same, yeah. Statistics tell part of the story but they never capture the full picture.

Ask me again in six weeks. :)

Pretty URLs are one of those things you don't notice until you go back to numeric ones and suddenly every link looks like a database export. Cleaner links are easier to remember and nicer to share too.

I support it mostly for usability rather than looks. If somebody sends me a link called /can-we-have-pretty-titled-links I instantly know what I'm opening. topic=10 could be anything from feature request to cat pictures.

Small warning though, if this gets added please make sure old links still resolve. Nothing ages a forum faster than years of dead bookmarks because someone got ambitious with URL rewrites.

I used to think this was cosmetic until I started searching my own browser history. Human-readable URLs are weirdly useful.

Also topic=10 has a certain retro charm that says "this site survived three migrations and refuses to explain itself."

Bright Hermit

If it's already sorted then excellent, one less tiny irritation gone. These are the kinds of improvements nobody celebrates but everyone quietly appreciates after a week.

I'm mildly against if it turns into massive routing complexity for very little gain. Numeric IDs are boring but dependable.

That said, best version is probably both: keep the ID and append the title for readability.

Agreed in principle but I hope titles aren't treated as permanent identifiers. People rename topics all the time and nobody wants arguments because somebody changed "help" into "solved" and broke twenty links.
