Everybody loves a bargain, but some deals are not what they seem. A cheap gadget that breaks within a week, a free trial that quietly turns into an expensive subscription or a sale price that was the normal price all along. Sometimes the trap is obvious in hindsight, and sometimes it is cleverly hidden in the small print

Common examples include printers sold cheaply, with expensive ink that costs more than the printer itself. Mobile phone contracts with tempting monthly prices but huge costs once the deal ends. Subscription boxes that are hard to cancel. Bundles stuffed with things you do not want, or extended warranties that cover almost nothing

My own trap was a very cheap smart plug multipack. They worked for about a month before the company's app stopped working and the plugs became useless. The money saved compared to a reputable brand was completely wasted. I learned that cheap smart home gear often depends on servers that can vanish at any moment. Hidden costs are the real danger

Please share your stories so others can avoid the same traps. If you managed to get your money back, tell us how, as that can be useful information too
