Fast fashion criticism has driven more people toward vintage and second hand in the last few years. The market has responded and prices on Depop and Vinted have risen as a result. The really good vintage pieces are harder to find at bargain prices than they were five years ago. Where are people actually sourcing interesting second hand and vintage clothing in 2026 and what categories still offer genuine value?

Charity shops in affluent areas are still the best source for quality pieces at genuine charity shop prices. The items donated are different in wealthier postcodes and the turnover is fast enough that you need to visit regularly

The problem is that TikTok vintage content has educated sellers. Anything identifiable as desirable gets priced accordingly now. The genuine bargains are in categories that have not had a viral moment yet

Vinted for basics and Depop for anything with personality. Vinted has better prices for everyday pieces. Depop has more interesting curation but sellers know what they have

eBay completed listings for research before you buy anywhere. Always check what the item actually sold for before you pay the asking price. Sellers on every platform overestimate their vintage items

Car boot sales in summer are underrated. The best ones in rural areas attract older sellers clearing out decades of accumulation and the prices are pre-internet. Takes time but the finds are real
Normal is overrated

Workwear - chore coats, canvas trousers, denim jackets - is still relatively affordable second hand because it was made in enormous quantities and held up well. Japanese repro workwear new is expensive. Original American workwear from the 70s and 80s is still findable
