Updates are supposed to make software better. They fix bugs, patch security holes and add useful features. But most of us have experienced the opposite, where an update arrives and suddenly something we loved becomes slower, more cluttered or harder to use. Sometimes features we relied on disappear completely

There are some well known examples. Redesigns that moved every button, apps that became bloated with features nobody asked for and programs that switched to a subscription model. Some updates add adverts or push AI features into places where they get in the way. Others simply make software slower on older machines

My example is a note taking app I used for years. It was fast, simple and did exactly what I needed. Then a big redesign added collaboration tools, templates, AI summaries and a cluttered interface, and opening it now takes several seconds. I eventually moved my notes elsewhere

Sometimes we get used to changes, and the frustration fades. Other times, people abandon software entirely, or find ways to stay on an older version. I am curious which updates have frustrated people most, and whether anyone has found good alternatives

Which software got worse after an update, and what did you do about it?
