Smaller user base than either Spotify or Apple Music limits its actual discovery ecosystem though. Worth considering if artist payout is genuinely your top priority over discovery features

Bandcamp deserves way more mention in these platform debates honestly, since it lets fans pay artists directly with way less of a middleman cut than either Spotify or Apple Music takes. Spotify's discovery algorithm is genuinely the reason I've stayed despite knowing the artist payout situation is worse than alternatives, since finding new music I actually love matters more to my day to day enjoyment than the payout structure I don't directly see. Honestly think neither platform deserves genuine credit for treating artists well, since the entire streaming payout model itself is structurally unfair to musicians regardless of which specific platform you pick. Marginal payout differences between Spotify and Apple Music distract from that much bigger structural problem. Comparing the two feels like arguing over which lesser evil is slightly less bad

Switched to Apple Music specifically for the lossless audio and slightly better payout rate, and honestly haven't missed Spotify's discovery features as much as I expected going in. Took some manual effort to find new music without the algorithm doing it for me. Worth the tradeoff for the audio quality and artist consideration though
