Small workflow wins: the shortcut, script or setting that saves you time every single day

[WaveFunction]

Not the big productivity philosophy thread, the tiny one. What is the small workflow win you use every single day, the keyboard shortcut, the two line script, the buried setting, the text expansion, the thing that saves thirty seconds a dozen times a day and would quietly ruin your week if it vanished

The bar for entry is daily use, not theoretical brilliance. Everyone has bookmarked a hundred clever tricks, this thread only wants the ones that actually survived contact with your habits, the difference between those two lists is the entire genre of productivity content

Format, name the win, what it replaced, and roughly what it saves. Beginners especially welcome to ask follow ups, the gap between people who know these things and people who were never shown is not intelligence, it is one colleague leaning over a shoulder at the right moment, and this thread is that colleague

House rule, no subscriptions required to participate, the best wins in past threads were free, built in, or ten lines of something anyone could paste. The paywall productivity industry can sit this one out

Clipboard history, that is it, that is the post. The day I learned the operating system remembers my last twenty copies instead of one was the day computing improved by a full letter grade

[Pete14]

Text expansion for my email address, postcode and the four sentences I apparently type professionally for a living. Replaced hundreds of daily keystrokes, the robot types my pleasantries and I approve them like management

[Brad79]

Window snapping shortcuts, replaced the daily ritual of hand arranging rectangles like a digital florist. Saves minutes, preserves sanity, built into everything since forever, shown to almost no one

[Octopus]

The one colleague leaning over a shoulder line is painfully true, twenty years in this industry and every single trick I know arrived exactly that way, never once from an article

[Abbie21]

Two line script confession, mine renames my camera imports by date and it has run every morning for six years. Nobody taught me more about automation than one boring folder finally organising itself

[Neuer31]

Beginner follow up as invited, where does a person even PUT a two line script so it runs every morning? Asking for a folder of eleven thousand photos

[Kane]

Reply for the beginner, every system has a scheduler built in, search task scheduler or cron plus your system name and prepare for the same lightbulb the rest of us had, ask here if you get stuck

[Jess30]

Middle click to open links in a background tab, embarrassingly small, used two hundred times a day, and I watched a colleague right click and select for YEARS before intervening like an emergency service

[Inland Sienna]

The survived contact with habits bar is ruthless and correct, my graveyard of clever abandoned systems could fill its own thread, the daily winners are always the stupid simple ones

[ShawnMichaels99]

Renaming files by pressing the rename key instead of the slow double click, a decade of micro frustration ended by one keycap I had never questioned. The wins really are this small and this good

[AlphaOscar89]

Thread summary for the pinned post, clipboard history, window snapping, text expansion, one scheduler and a shoulder to lean over, total cost zero, the productivity industry hates this board
