Replit's chief executive Amjad Masad has said the AI coding platform no longer works with Anthropic. TechCrunch's Lucas Ropek reports that Masad made the comment on stage at TechCrunch Disrupt. He cited cost, partnership terms and performance as reasons

Replit announced a partnership with OpenAI in August. Masad said Replit's internal and public benchmarks show OpenAI's models doing better at building apps from scratch. Replit had previously used Claude to power its platform, and that relationship had been linked to strong revenue growth

There is some confusion about the details. A person familiar with the deal told TechCrunch that the partnership with Anthropic is still in place, which contradicts Masad's statement. A Replit blog post from late September also still mentioned Claude models running in production. Replit had not replied to TechCrunch's questions at the time of writing

Masad also shared some business details. He said enterprise customers have grown from about 2 percent of revenue last year to about 15 percent this year, and that more than half of revenue now comes from businesses. He did not give annual revenue figures

AI coding platforms often switch or mix models as the technology changes, so this is not unusual in itself. What makes it interesting is the conflicting account. Until Replit clarifies, it is worth treating the claim with some caution

Do AI coding tools gain or lose by depending on one model provider? And how often should platforms switch models?
