Post your most useful keyboard shortcuts that most people don't know

Not the obvious ones. Not Ctrl+C and Ctrl+Z. The ones that actually save you real time that people who do not know them are doing the slow way every single day without realising there is a faster path.

I became aware of a shortcut last week that I had genuinely not known existed after years of doing something manually that turns out to be a single key combination. The feeling of mild embarrassment mixed with genuine delight when this happens is one of my favourite small computing experiences.

Platform is fine: Windows, Mac, Linux, specific apps. Just specify what it is for.

Windows: Win+V opens clipboard history. Most people do not know Windows has a clipboard history built in. It has changed how I work more than almost any other discovery this year.

Browser: Ctrl+Shift+T reopens the last closed tab. Works in basically every browser. I have used this more times than I can count and yet most people I mention it to have never heard of it.

Mac: Cmd+Shift+. shows hidden files in Finder. Toggle it off the same way. Saves enormous amounts of time when you need to see what is actually in a directory.

Excel: Alt+Enter inserts a line break inside a cell. This should be more widely known. Also Ctrl+Shift+L to toggle filters on a selected range.

Windows: Alt+F4 closes the current window but on the desktop it brings up the shutdown dialogue. Marginally faster than right clicking but it always makes me feel like I know something.

In most text editors and browsers: Ctrl+Backspace deletes the entire previous word rather than one character at a time. Also Ctrl+Delete for the word ahead. Massive time saver for editing.

Gmail: E to archive, # to delete, R to reply, A to reply all. Working in Gmail without touching the mouse is entirely possible and much faster once you internalise these.

Any terminal: Ctrl+R starts a reverse search through command history. Type part of a command you used before and it finds it. I use this dozens of times a day.
