Is there still a case for buying a desktop in 2026?

Tried the obvious things and wanted to know what actually works.

Most machines slow down for software reasons not hardware ones.

Part of the reason I asked is because I would rather avoid wasting time going down the wrong route.

The nuance is always in the detail and that is exactly what gets lost when these topics get summarised.

Anyone else looked into this properly?
