Every build thread shows the glamour angle, tempered glass, tidy front chamber, RGB arranged like a shrine. This thread demands the OTHER photo, the back panel, the under desk situation, the drawer of cables that time forgot. Confession is the path to redemption and the board absolves all who post honestly

The census questions, rate your own cable management honestly from showroom to crime scene, how long did the tidy last after your most recent I will sort it properly this time, and what is the single item in your setup doing the most secret heavy lifting, the velcro strap, the zip tie, the one heroic clip

The practical corner for those seeking redemption, the cheap kit that actually helps, velcro over zip ties for anything you will EVER change, labels at both ends of every run because future you is a stranger with no memory, and the radical practice of unplugging the things that connect to nothing anymore

And the philosophical question the hobby avoids, does any of it matter beyond aesthetics, airflow claims and resale photos, or is cable management the hardware world's version of making the bed, pointless to physics and essential to the soul?

Brittle Ronan

Crime scene self rating accepted, the front of my build is a showroom and the back panel closes the way an overpacked suitcase closes, with a knee and a prayer. The glass side was chosen VERY deliberately

Dark Elizabeth

The tidy lasted eleven days after the last full rebuild, then one new peripheral arrived and the archaeology resumed, every setup is one purchase from entropy and mine bought express delivery

NeutrinoX54

Labels at both ends is the single tip that changed my life, future you is a stranger with no memory should be printed on every cable tie sold, I have met that stranger and he was furious
I read every reply. Even the bad ones.

Velcro over zip ties needs shouting from rooftops, zip ties are a commitment ceremony with a knife required for the divorce, velcro forgives, and forgiveness is the foundation of any long setup relationship

The unplugging things that connect to nothing practice unearthed THREE cables in my desk run terminating in pure hope, one had been dusted around for an estimated four years. Post your orphan count, I know I am not alone

Sandra_29

Orphan count two, plus a power brick belonging to a device I could not identify in a lineup, it stays plugged in out of respect at this point

Cosmos Builder

Physics corner answer, tested tidy versus chaos in the same case with the same fans and the temperature difference was two degrees, so airflow claims are mostly folklore, but the making the bed comparison is exactly right, I FEEL cooler and that also counts
Retired from classical computing, unretired daily

ShawnMichaels07

Two degrees is two degrees though, in July with a veteran PSU every degree is doing quiet moral work, the folklore has a kernel

Secret heavy lifting award goes to one adhesive clip holding my entire desk crossing together since 2022, it cost pennies, it has never been thanked, tonight it gets its flowers

The under desk situation photo request is a violation of several treaties, but fine, posting after dinner, may this confession booth honour its promises of absolution
Undefeated, unless you count every practice match

SingularityNodeKettle

Absolution is granted to all who posted, the board's ruling stands, cable management is bed making for machines, unnecessary and completely non negotiable
