Bose has bought Skullcandy. Engadget's Ian Carlos Campbell reports that Bose will run the headphone brand as a separate business inside its consumer audio division. The price has not been disclosed

The two companies are not strangers. They have worked together for years, with Skullcandy releasing several products branded Sound by Bose, including the Crusher 1080 headphones. That partnership clearly worked well enough for Bose to want more

Skullcandy will stay in Park City, Utah, where it was founded, and will get more access to Bose technology. Bose is mainly interested in Skullcandy's audience, which is strong in sports, gaming, music and fitness, and tends to be younger than Bose's traditional customers

Bose chief executive Lila Snyder said the company is growing through its own products, technology partnerships and a portfolio of brands. Engadget compares the deal to Apple's purchase of Beats, which kept its own identity while gaining Apple's resources

It makes sense for Bose to reach younger buyers without changing its own premium image. Skullcandy brings attitude and lower prices, and Bose brings excellent noise cancelling and sound tuning. If they keep the brands distinct, it could work well for both

Do you own Bose or Skullcandy headphones? And will this make Skullcandy products better?
